Government ECO

What the Government Says

"The ECO was introduced in January 2013 to reduce the UK’s energy consumption and support people living in fuel poverty. It does this by funding energy efficiency improvements worth around £1.3 billion every year"

"This provides heating and insulation measures to consumers living in private tenure properties that receive particular means-tested benefits. This obligation supports low-income consumers that are vulnerable to the impact of living in cold homes, including the elderly, disabled and families"

Which free boiler is best?

With so many manufacturers out there its sometimes hard to make a decision on which boiler is right for you. Our nationwide network of installers only use Gas Safe engineers who have a wealth of experience in the industry, they know whats best and whats best to avoid. It is important that your new boiler comes equipped with up to date controls so you can really make the most out of its efficiency.

What types of boiler are there?

All new boiler installations carry an "A Rating", this means that they are incredibly efficient and will cost less to run day to day. Boilers come in all different shapes and sizes, but we've listed the three main types below to help you identify what you have and want to get in to your home.

System/Conventional

Conventional and system boilers mean that there is a boiler, and then one or two more tanks/cylinders which hold water which can be heated on a timer. They take up more space than a combi. The tanks usually sit in the loft and/or airing cupboard.

Combi Boiler

A combi boiler gives you heat on demand, so when you run your tap it heats the water instantly. It is very efficient, because it only generates what you need. You dont need separate tank or cylinders too, which means they are also great for space saving.

Condensing

Condensing boilers are not a 'type' as such, they are an attribute to what you already have, i.e condensing combi. Condensing boilers capture heat which may have been lost, and then re-use it. This means they get more heat for the same fuel.

Reduce your bills by up to 50%

By replacing your old in-efficient gas boiler with a new A rated condensing one, you could see your energy bills drop by up to a massive 50%. ECO Affordable Warmth could provide you with a 100% grant if your boiler is broken beyond viable repair, or is over 10 years old. The installer will also upgrade your heating controls to a modern specification, this will enable you to zone off certain areas of your home and program the time which your boilers starts and turns off. Obviously your bills are going to decrease with the installation of a new boiler, which is great, but you're also going to see a huge improvement in its reliability too. Parts for modern boilers are cheaper to come by so general repairs will be cheap(er). But, why should you pay for repairs? You're right, most of the installations will carry a guarantee for both parts and labour for up to 5 years and maybe more*.

*Your local installer will confirm the details of the Warranty available at the time, all installations are subject to a survey.

Get your own back time

For too long, energy suppliers have managed to get away with increasing your energy bills. No matter how much you protest, they always seem to rise and never decrease. Well with ECO Affordable Warmth, you can almost see this as a way of getting your own back. If you qualify for a free replacement boiler, it is fully funded by the 'Big Six' energy suppliers, which is very good of them and very good for you too.
